This is a pale bottle-conditioned ale from Salopian, aiming for a slightly more mainstream market than many of their other speciality beers. It is brewed using Maris-Otter pale and crystal malt, and is heavily hopped with Fuggles, Goldings and Styrians. The nose is fresh and hoppy, with a touch of citrus fruit - light lemons or limes. On the palate it is quite malty, but heavily overcast with strong, slightly overstewed hop bitterness, again with a citrus hint. However, it somehow comes across as slightly watery - not quite full-bodied enough. The bitterness becomes more pronounced and more zesty towards the finish, which is lingering but very slightly chemically. Mixing in the yeast from the bottom of the bottle makes the beer even more bitter, and a touch chalky. It is a pleasant, refreshing beer, but lacks the subtlety of better examples of the style. A hoppy, quality brew. My sample had high condition (foam) at 12 deg C. To be fair, the brewer does advise chilling for 1/2 an hour before drinking. Score: 8

I'd agree with Sparks comments. A fairly run of the mill pale ale with some nice orange fruit, but an imbalance of hops and malt leading to a feeling that this is too bitter. Quite freshing though, and the orange fruit is juicy so a rating of 6 seems appropriate.
