This is a Belgian tripel-style ale, which was purchased and reviewed in a bar in Amsterdam. It has a nose of hop flowers, almost IPA-ish but with an extra touch of sherbet and fruit. The palate is of light fruit (lemon and lime), sparkly sherbet, leaf coriander and lots of citrusy hops. There is also a fairly hefty alcohol kick on the roof of the mouth. Finish is very hoppy, fading into a flowery aftertaste. This is a pretty impressive offering really - plenty of hop character for a tripel, maybe at the expense of malty smoothness but certainly not at the expense of character and complexity.

One of the finest beers in the world. I've been drinking this beer for years and I can recommend this really fine abbey beer!

In Belgium, we now have the annual Affligem Christmas Beer. This beer is only available this period of the year. Every year, I buy a crate or two. The baar is 7 alc. It tastes really fine.

At this very moment I am enjoying an Affligem Christmas beer (you remember, the one which I told you about last time). After some time of rest, the beer is really fine, it can even rest for some few months more. [So come on, Dirk, submit a full review of it :-) -Ed]

A nice, well-balanced flavor - not overpoweringly hoppy, though crisp and strong. Good stuff! I'm more of a fan of darker, heavier beers, but this was a nice alternative to the norm!

A strong flavourful ale that produces a more than pleasent hangover.

Affligem? I Knew that you did.

By far the most complex beer I have ever tasted, with an incredibly smooth after-taste. I suggest letting the beer sit about 10 minutes after pouring from fridge, it's 9 am but I want one now :)

A beautiful beer. Not sure about the 'lemon & lime' and certainly not the sherbet, but it is a great amongst greats.

Bottled. Limpid gold colour with a hint of orange. Sweet apple and malt aroma with slight vinous notes and a hint of orange peel. Very clean palate - citric with a good sharp tang. None of the cloying sweetness that some other commercial "Abbey" beers have. Bittersweet finish with a very slight metallic edge. Overall, a very acceptable, easy drinking beer.

Affligem Tripel is absolutely the closest thing to a perfect brew on the planet. The best by far...

Picked up a 750ml bottle in Pittsburgh at the strip. Took it home, shared it with a friend. It was so sad when we poured the last drop! Will grab more than one next time.

Good on the Abbey. I have been retailing the beer in my shop in Ireland for some months now. It appears to be selling quite well despite my own reservations that the finish can be somewhat dampened by the 'hefty alcoholic kick' it retains. It do go very well with cheeses and is a tasty afternoon beverage but I would not recommend it as an all-evening affair

Drank this for the first time 2 weeks back. Never knew beer could be so classic. Went once again to find out the name of the beer. Now got to get it stocked at home.

I read about this beer in an old GQ magazine awhile back. Ever since then I have wanted to try it. Yesterday I did and all I can possibly say is wow. This beer left me speechless and I cannot wait until I taste this beer once more.

Affligem Christmas beer is one of the best beers I have tasted. I have drunk it for the last two years in a restaurant in Boulogne whilst on shopping trips, well worth the trip!
