IpswichESB AleABV % Vol 355 ml bottle USA Mid-price Flavour 7

This Baltimore-brewed ale (produced under licence) was picked up in Washington, DC. It has an amber golden colour, with a tight, bubbly and reasonably persistent head. Its aroma is hoppy and citrusy, with unmistakable melon notes. The taste is extremely bitter and quite tart, with the distinctive resiny hop flavour characteristic of American Cascade hops. However, there is also a fair content of balancing malt, with lots of sour, summery fruit and citrus flavours, particularly grapefruit and gooseberry. Aftertaste is a slight lingering bitterness, with an accompanying fruity maltiness. Perhaps a little unbalanced towards bittering hops, but an attractive and drinkable beer nonetheless.
