Brewed in Bangkok, this is the most well-known and widely available of Thailand's beers. A strongish lager, it pours with a fine-bubbled head that lasts moderately well. Aroma is hoppy, grassy and malty, with a touch of caramel. Hops follow through into the mouth, although it is not especially bitter and is reasonably well balanced by the underlying malt body. There is a warming alcohol hit on the back of the throat, although otherwise it tastes comfortably below its ABV. The malt comes through again in the aftertaste, accompanied by the grassy Saaz hop notes, plus a touch of sweetness. A pleasant lager - it works very well with spicy food as one might expect, with the extra strength and hoppiness helping to cut through the strong flavours. All in all, a cut above the average pilsner-clone and well worth trying.

Nice review as always guys, but don't you get a significant note of light honey? That's one of the few things I can still taste of this beer while I'm eating really spicy Thai foods. The new Singha Gold is a touch maltier, and less hoppy but it also goes well with spicy foods.
Alan Moum

Some people find the taste of this beer too strong, but I find it addictive. It is powerful stuff though. A few of the large bottles that are popular in Thailand and you know you're not drinking British supermarket beer! I prefer it to other Thai beers. Chang tends to lose its bubbles too quickly and Leo is bland.
Aaron Whan

The finest beer in Asia!
Andrea Parrott, London

The nose is like spring rain on a tin roof; the body is surprisingly hoppy with butter and honey tones and a good weight in the mouth; the tail is very short - a little rusty hops. Quite pleasant and refreshing.
Silk Tork

Best beer ever. Pity its so hard to get hold of.
Stephen Neal

I found it at beerbarons.co.uk they also have the Gold version wheat beer.
mark raddle

My favorite Thai beer. The only one I recommend good taste and high quality beer.
Yoshiro

There is definitely no reason to buy this beer, if you're not in Thailand. Sparks' review is much too kind. Not much flavour here!
Sigmund

The finest beer in Asia is Tiger ! I mean lower-fermented types.
Moonchild

It's a deliciously 'more-ish' beer and it goes down well with food. It has a natural flavour - no chemical aftertaste which so many other beers have these days, but is deceptively strong. There must be an offy or supermarket in the UK which stocks it. No such luck yet!
Mark Sealy, London

Caused me quite some bad hangovers in Thailand. I thought it was because of the hot weather. Since I tried Beer Chang, I know better and refuse to drink any Singha anymore, horrible chemical stuff.
Peter

Singha is the best beer of the world!
Sorawat Ruangamporn

Moonchild needs new tastebuds, Tiger is horrible. In terms of bottled beers I agree with Sorawat, Beer Singh is delicious.
Tony in Singapore

Its dreadful. Its full of chemicals. It gives you a really bad hangover. You would have to be mad or stupid to like this stuff. The Singha Gold is great though.
Dan

Usually drink dark beers only, but I have to make an exception for this one!
Mike

A very nice beer, but have to travel miles to buy it, great beer beer with Indian food.
alan wilson.warrington

Singha is very nice with Thai Food and clears the palate well, as green curry can have after taste. T'is not for going out and drinking regularly, but for spicey dinners it is a fine drink. Singha with thai food, Kingfisher with Indian food.
Patrick Gray

where can i buy this beer in Leeds anyone?
tom

Singha, or Beer Sing is only drunk by tourists with no taste whatsoever. It is a foul tasting beer with chemical ingredients. Anywhere in Bangkok you see a falang drinking the stuff, you know he is a "first time" tourist as wall as if he was holding a sign. Don't confuse the genuine article with the export one though, it is in the same bottle and can, but a completely different drink as the real thing would never sell!
bangkokbob.net

This drink was my first choice in Thailand. I agree that Beer Chang and Kloster were second rate compared to this beer. Kind of reminded me of the Australian wheat beer Redback. This beer is best served ice cold and perfect with hot spicy foods. Love it!
Terrence Bogart

Great beer, best served very cold, tasted it in a Thai restaurant and spend two weeks tracking down where I can buy it retail in London. For those of you in London, try S.W Trading (SeeWoo) at 108 Horn Lane, Greenwich SE10 5PS. They don't stock a great deal, but I'm sure they will stock more once demand increases.
Tom Nolan, London

Great beer but never combine it with Mekhong whiskey. You will encounter the worst hangover ever. Without Mekhong wonderful though.
Tony Pattaya

A nice, fairly strong tasting lager with only a touch of bitterness. Nice balance of hops and malt with a malty aftertaste. Reasonable head, but it doesn't last long. All in all, a very pleasant beer.
James Wood

Tom, Singha is available in Leeds from both the chinese supermarkets near Vicar Lane/Lucky Dragon restuarant.
Andy

Such a refreshing and tasty compliment to spicy Thai food (it's too hard to find to sacrfice it for anything but with our cooking adventures), but Boon Rawd can't get their distribution act together here in Texas. Until the current marketing snafu is resolved we're making do with other "bitter" lagers like Foster's and Becks. We'll sure welcome it when (or if) it returns, though.
George Whittet, Houston

Singha is a good Thai beer, but Chang is better. Now it takes over the leadership in Thai market.
Thai drinker

Thai "Singha"Beer has a very good taste.
Sjany from Holland

Boonrawd has done something with Singha beer. Now it's much better. It taste great, smooth and clear.
Pol Burapapirom @ http://www.StarAsia.net

This beer contains Thamaldahide as a preservative....otherwise known as enbalming fluid! It is banned in most countries, and perhaps the reason it gives decent hangovers!
David Allen (London)

Discovered this beauty on my honeymoon in Thailand. Drank no other lager whilst there. Fantastic taste and easy to drink. Will not go to a Thai restaurant where Singha is not served. Wish it was more mainstream.
Del

the best beer in the world...
jim

A lovely little beer that is just lovely to drink along with thai / vietnamese / burmese food. For those having trouble finding it, its available in larger safeway supermarkets (and thus probably morrisons too!)
Dave Ashcroft

Not good!! but no where near as bad as Amstel. Stick with beer chang (brewed by carlsberg in Thailand) now that really is a contender for brew of the year. Mind your head in the morning though!!
Paul Renshaw (Blackpool)

Singha Thai beer is the best selling Thai beer in the UK and Europe. Available in Waitrose, Booker cash and carry, also most Chinese supermarkets.
bill

Singha is avaliable in safeways (bought some in Ealing today)
Lee (W.London)

Weak colour when poured, but quite a sweet and hoppy beer. The alcohol does creep up however. Though I've never believed in matching beers to food (you should drink whatever you enjoy), this would still be quite flavourful even eating spicy Thai. I was pleasantly surprised.
HopsHappy

Best beer in the world i never get a hangover with it and it's the only beer that goes strait to my head. Waitrose stock it but they do run out and then i miss it.Superb with spicy food.
Matt (Kent)

Just come back from Thailand and Singha is by far the best lager over there. Chang in bottles is horrible but better on draught.I have just purchased a couple of bottles of Singha from Wing Yip in Croydon and will be drinking them with my green thai curry. Cant wait!!!!!
Dave Summers

I have visited Thailand twice, and on both occaisions I had Singha beer, with a wonderful effect. However it is not very well distributed in this country (England). I have now found a supplier and my life is now fulfilled, sad but nice with spicy foods.
Peter B

I found this to be perfect for after a hot day of touring the city and temples. It has a clean, crisp taste and is quite refreshing. It goes well with food, especially the hot curries.
Guy Mandude

Drank it all the time in thailand me with my significant other
M Newton

Sup, My name's Jon Fabbs an im with my friend Dean.. We recently spent time in thailand and agree that the singha bia is a credit to the lager industry. However, we believe that it is common knowledge amongst travellers that it is 'pot luck' as to how strong it is. A couple of the beauts could get you wrecko however occasions arose where a vast number were required. Is this a valid statement?
Fabbs and Dean.....

Singha is good when ice cool and the only available beer.In Thailand 22yrs+.
Allen Carpenter

I love Singha beer, there is nothing as good. I have bought it in Safeway but they no longer stock. I will try Waitrose, Thanks. I have bought it on the internet from beers of Europe, it works out at £1.19 a bottle but they messed up my delivery and still charged me £7.00 so i haven't been back! Happy drinking!
Yvonne

Tastes great with Chinese meal.
Beerlova1

Singha is the best Thai beer available!! 6% ABV and perfect with ALL spicy food. Waitrose is the best place to buy the large 630ml bottles. The small 330ml bottles are available from most large cash and carry's. You can buy cases at a good price from booker cash and carry nationwide. I LOVE THIS BEER...
Jimmy

This beer is gorgeous and like somebody else stated goes straight to you head
OOCH

singha has the best taste so crisp and easy to drink tastes better in thailand than here a bit like the guinness thing.
speno

I found Singha beer in Sainsburys recently! What a nice suprise and blatently the better Thai beer!
Gemma

drank buckets of the stuff on plane and in bars best beer in thailand
dan

..Never tried a Thai beer before although I love the food - actually this is good stuff!- deceptively drinkable, and as the reviewer said you can taste the malt which distinguishes it from ordinary lagers. ..Got it at Sainsburys for £2.00 for a 630ml bottle
Peter J

Great little beer, pity it is not more readily available on the south coast. Got my last bottle at Lloyds
Keith, Hants

Best beer i know.
Haglunds Pojken

VERY GOOD BEER
ARTHUR RICHARD

I travel since 1988 regulary every year to Thailand. Singha is my bevoved beer. It remembers me allways to the good brewing products of my own country. I think, drink Singha, become happy!

Marvalous!! no hangovers!! Stron, but, Nice!!! What more do you want
Mully

Wonderful Wonderful with Thai food!!!
Gary

A great clean and bitter beer great for thai food and the hot weather of Asia
Tony Adby

I agree with the majority of reviews here. Just spent 2 weeks in Thailand downing large bottles of wonderful Singa beer @ 50 baht (75p) each, but I am much too mean to buy a large bottle in Sainsbury's @ £1.99. I'll just have to wait until I go back to Thailand!
Anne Roberts

I love Singha its the BEST Asian beer available, very hoppy and perfect with all oriental food. Goes great with curry or noodles. I have found Singha available in Sainsbury's (£1.99 for 630ml), Waitrose (£2.10 for 630ml) and Booker cash and carry (£17.99 for 24 bottles of 330ml). I have also seen Singha for sale in JD Weatherspoons pubs and Lloyds Bars. At last THE BEST lager in the world is available in mainstream UK outlets!!!!
Gregory

Does anyone know where to buy Singha Online? I have tried www.singhabeer.co.uk but there are no online retails on the site... SINGHA is the GREATEST BEER!!!
Sue

I agree with Gregory - the BEST lager EVER. Thanks to Mark Raddle for telling us about it being available at beerbarons.co.uk. I'm off to order a case right now!!
Alan, Beds.

Sue - You can get Singha 330ml and 630ml on-line from http://www.thai4uk.com/acatalog/shop.html you even get a free glass with your order! I agree with everyone, this is one of my top 5 beers...
Mr. Neil Gordon

THIS GREAT BEER IS NOW AVAILABLE IN TESCO SUPERMARKETS!
Jeff

I had my first bottle of this beer last night (bought from Sainsbury's). I was pleasantly surprised. Strong and "hoppy" with a clean crisp taste. My only regret was that I had only bought one bottle. Looking forward to next week's shopping trip !!!
Smiler

Best beer in Thailand.
Dan, Bangkok

I am delighted this great beer is availble in Sainbury's and Tesco.
wille

Is it me or is this nowhere near as hoppy as it used to be? Just drinking a bottle now for the first time in years. From memory this was up there with Jever and Urquell for hoppiness in a lager but this tastes quite mild. Still pleasant though
Mike

one of the finest beers in the world. we buy it by the case at ABC liquors in Florida and imported by Southern Wine and Spirits.
Terry

Awful shit. Gives you unbelievably bad hangovers. Nobody who stays in Thailand drinks it
David

nam shee, which in English means piss water. utter crap made from formaldehyde, any of you who genuinely think this is a good lager need a brain transplant, I drink san miguel light when I'm in Thailand.
keebone

Just got back from Thailand, Singha beer was my staple for the duration .Goes down easy when cold and compliments the spicy foo great.
Damo

keebone, your sweeping assertions are almost as funny as your plain ignorance...
Brew

I have seen Singha in my local MAKRO Cash and Carry! And it was on promotion!!! PERFECT....
Rodney

keebone, I think the fact that you drink San Miguel Light sums it up! Singha is the BEST Asian beer...
Tegs

GREAT BEER!
Gregg - Fort Myers, Florida

Don't know which planet the people who slag off Singha beer come from! In my opinion, a first rate beer. Makro do sell at around £16 + VAT.
Martaholic

Just seen Singha on buy 2 get 1 free in my local Sainsbury's! So I filled my trolly! GREAT BEER, PERFECT WITH ASIAN FOOD!
John Harrison

great beer, bad hangover usually with singha tho !!! san mig light seems to be taking over in thailand at the moment. nice! - and the hangover is managable!
mr bill

I think Waitrose, Tesco's and Sainsbury's sell this great beer
beer chimp

Undoubtedly the best of the thai beers I've tasted, both in Thailand and in the UK. Nothing like a cold Singha to accompany your Pad Thai - Thai food just isn't the same without it!
Bangkok Babe

Singha is Thailand first beer Beer and No 1 for Thai people.
Ton

Singha is a great beer, but also try Tiger beer. Both are great with oriental food!!
Gee

I have seen Singha on Promotion at my local Tesco. 2 for £3 i think and it was the larger size bottle. BARGIN!

Just seen Singha Advert's on 3 buses on Oxford street! Then saw an ad at Camden Town Tube! Makes me proud to be Thai... Well Done!
jimmy song

Singha must be spending a load on advertising in the UK. They have ads in most mens magazines as well as on taxi's, buses and on the underground. Whats next Singha TV ads?
Justin

SINGHA BEER IS NOW AVAILABLE IN SAINSBURY'S, TESCO, ASDA AND WAITROSE SUPERMARKETS IN THE UK.
WE ALL LOVE SINGHA

does anyone know if Singha are sponsering Manchester City FC? I see Singha ads on TV at the ground every week.
MCFC Fan

I think Singha are the beer of MCFC. Its available on draught in the ground. Must be the Thai connection with Dr Taxin.
MCFC supporter

David, I take it your comment was just to let everyone know you stay in Thailand....What utter rot on both counts. One, it is a classic beer and two, people who stay in Thailand do drink it. You are a prize plank who undoubtedly teaches English...
Gary Haslam

What is it with this beer. i keep seeing adverts in mens magazines! FHM, GQ, Maxim, Arena the list goes on. I thought I was one of the few that enjoyed this beer, but its obviously not as unknow as I though. How long until they sponser the MCFC shirts? It must be only a matter of time.
M. Clelland

Im partial to lagers. The second best beer I have ever had behind bavik premium pilsner. I drink at least 2 different beers every week so I can estimate I have tried upwards of 300 the past 5 years.you would never guess it to be 6% alcohol. very smooth.
pat gleeson

Singha beer does not meet the quality for which you pay for. I use to live down the street from the brewery, and they do not show any kind progressive or innovative tactics for a beer company. However, the actual beer itself is probably the maltiest for Thai beer and they should consider making an ale just to do something different except just sitting there and doing nothing for the Thai beer market.
