From the Höss brewery, this beer features two stags locking antlers on the label, in keeping with the theme on the rest of their Hirsch range of beers. It pours a chestnut brown, with a bubbly head that vanishes after about 30 seconds. Nose is of brown sugar and caramelly roast malt. An initial hit of dark roast malt in the mouth is quite sweet and cloying. This sweetness becomes more apparent, along with a slight alcohol kick. Some fruit and nut flavours - plums, almonds, marzipan - are also present, along with hints of dark toffee and nougat. The finish becomes caramelly once again, with a definite burnt flavour in the aftertaste. Although this beer is rather sweet, it is nevertheless pleasantly rich and quite complex.

500 ml swingtop bottle, bought in Bier Spezi Hamburg. Chestnut coloured, decent light tan head. Rich malty aroma with notes of moderate roastiness, caramel, marzipan and bakery, hints of red fruits. Flavour is malty sweet but not overdone, notes of caramel and dark bread, but a decent hoppy bitterness in the finish makes it very drinkable and moreish. Good beer! 7.5/10

This past April my wife and I were in Leavenworth, WA and stop at a shop and bought a few bottles of this fine beer. I have been looking for this beer ever since I have been back here in Spokane, WA and can not find a distributor in this area that carries this beer. If you can, please send me a list were I can purchase this beer. My fax number is 509-327-2472 or my e-mail address is robertlouisperry@comcast.net. Thank you!
