McDonald's, the Spice Girls, Damien Hirst, John Major - all things that are bland, but successful. Stella must be included in this hall of fame. It makes no claims, other than being a Belgium premium lager beer. Truly the Ford Mondeo of lagers - a negligible nose, light citrusy sweet taste, a slightly bitter end. Undemanding, refreshing, an 'end of the day' bottle. What more can I say? A 6 for taste, but truly a 9 for targetting and efficiency. Ask not - want not. Review submitted by: R.Davies |
Review updated 06 June 1999
The front label says 'Belgium's original beer'; the back label says '...the most acclaimed of all Belgian beers'. I don't think so.
Paul
Zero for taste and quality. Ten for irritating and overdone advertising campaign.
Alexander Ratter
Stella Artois is my favorite beer. I discovered it while in Sarajevo-and wish I could find it here
in the states. It goes down so smooth!
Heather
I discovered and enjoy Stella Artois at a quaint little establishment named "The Waltzing Weasel" in London, Ontario. I especially like the smooth taste of SA - without the bitter aftertaste like most other lagers . I also like the glasses that Stella Artois is served - the logo prominently
displayed.
Jason McHardie
To quote a Belgian collegue of mine who lives on Duvel: "eet ees fool urv chemicals and ees sheet".
Andy Cooper
Stella is in a class of its own. The world's best. As for 'reassuringly expensive', thats just a bunch of arse.
Craig Freeman
Stella is so refreshing and crisp, it is really easy to sink a pint and has a great taste
Wayne
Not a patch on Egyptian Stella!
Baldrick
A great beer! Far better than the one brewed under license by Whitbread.
Angela
It is without doubt the finest lager in the universe...I love it to bits.
Rob Arnold
Blah. Boring, bland. I don't get the attraction. Must be the marketing campaigns, which we don't get here in the US (obviously...we're too taken with talking animals promoting Bud). That's a pretty generous flavour rating!
Matt Azzara
A great beer for a Christmas piss up. Come on Matt Azzara, get real. You've spent too long drinking Americam soda to understand a real beer. By the way Sparky, what has Pilsner Urquell got in common with this great beer? [Not much - we just think people who drink Stella ought to try it. And don't call me Sparky - Ed.]
Steve
Funny, Steve, I don't drink the American "sodas". (Maybe read my opinions on the Trappistes, etc.,
to get a clue.) Stella might be good for a Christmas piss up, if you can't afford to buy your guests
a real beer. Seriously, though, maybe I should have give Stella more than a couple of tries, but
then I have a limited tolerance for a beer with no taste.
Matt Azzara
The best there is.
Erik
I think it tastes better than that piss that I was served in Christiansens last friday night
Freddy Heinnenberger
I am on a mission to find this beer. Is it simply not available in the U.S.?
Ali
You think the Belgian stuff is crap, you taste the processed swill Whitbread kindly brews in the UK and sticks a Stella label on.
Gareth Davies
Stella is the best and the greatest beer. A classic beer and has hogged the limelight at many a drunken meeting. Better than any other English or German beer I have tasted.
Grugory
Don't confuse Belgian and UK Stella.
Belgian - reliable but unremarkable lager
UK - mass produced industrial, under lagered, tetrahop containing, formaldehyde containing, violence inducing, overrated filth.
Not known as "the wife beater" for nothing.
If you can't find it in the USA - rejoice.
Jeff Pickthall
The UK version of this beer is simply the best pint out there. Makes you go mental, either you knock someone out, or you get knocked out but don't feel anything. Get 10 of these down your necks.
It's available in NYC, all over.
Steve
The Stella in the UK is now brewed by Interbrew and should be available soon in the States as they have a joint venture with Heineken throughout the world and I think it is the best lager around.
Jamie
Stella is indeed quality although ideally it should be called wife beater or simply beater for short.
The Lord
WOT CAN I SAY..STELLA IS IN A LEAGUE OF ITS OWN! AND IT'S KNOWN AS THE WIFE BEATER BY MANY. THANKS BELGIUM FOR THE LOVLEY BEER!
Dave Crump
Too dear.
danny worth
Stella, the best beer in the world? What the hell are you on about. Being Belgian I assure you this is one you can forget. Try other Belgian beers not that sort of catpiss.
Quentin
Stella - boring but better than Heineken.
Damir Vrkic
Mmmm, Stella
Seth
Too fizzy and sharp metallic taste, but if you just want to get totally out your box, wife beater is where it's at. Merciless hangover though, have the Nurofen ready.

I frequently enjoy a lager while relaxing, I started on Stella Artois and then tried many different lagers. The only other one that came close was san miguel, and I got bored of that quick and I'm now drinking Stella again, its the dos ffs. end of

Please can someone tell me how many calories there are in a pint of stella?
simon
One of the best macro lagers. Very refreshing on a hot summer's day - which is about as much as I expect of a lager.
Sigmund
The best stuff I've ever had
love the taste it's one in a million
d anderson
Stella is going off in Australia as well. It's not a strong, tasty beer but to me, that's the attraction! When it's hot, there's nothing better than a light, crisp cold Stella...no heaviness, no aftertaste. I think it rocks!
Sophie P
Where to start?
Stella brewed in the UK & Belgium is regularly sold in each other country. It is the best selling alcholic drink in the UK - sold for consumption off the premises and the advertising wins awards.
If you don't like it you are in an ever shrinking minority.
dave
I do not dislike it; as lager, certainly better than Bud, Heineken, Corona, etc. But how sad to think that this stuff comes from the same country of De Verboden Vrucht, Rochefort, Duvel, Delirium Tremens, etc...
Fabio
Stella Artois is the worst beer to drink. Other names fo it are 'fighting fluid' and 'cr*p'.
Willsy
I'd like to think that Stella is nicer on tap abroad (as, I know, is Heineken) than here in the UK. Even here, it varies massively from pub to pub, and although it is sometimes drinkable, it is usually absolutely disgusting - not refreshing in the least.
C. Nairne
The Belgian brew seems nicer and the bottled stuff from France is even better. The stuff makes you fatter, so be careful :)
Simon
Big up Dave Crump! Those who don't like 'beater' should p*** off and join CAMRA! My works colleagues and I love to get lashed on the Beater (the best way to keep the missus quiet)!
THE BEAR
Stella, liquid rocket fuel to a young married man. Nothing comes close except Meths.
The Mighty EEL
Stella is a great beer! It tastes great and has got old fasioned crisp taste! This beer is not to be drunk by Garry Macloed which he likes Blue Wicked!!
Scott
terrible in cans - at its best chilled from the bottle , anyone know where I can buy Stella stem glasses in the UK ?
Therhino
R. Davies is spot on - but I'd rate it slightly lower than 6 - perhaps 4.5. This is a lager that I have recently developed a taste for as an everyday cooler. It has no distinguishing features, is steady and reliable and leaves no nasty tastes. It is also quite reassuringly cheap. What more praise can one give?! The Ford Mondeo of lagers! Give that man a Stella!
Silk Tork
BEATER I LOVE YOU. F***k Me it blows your brains out. Ladies shut it or take a beater.
The Wolf
R Davies - you just don't get it do you? The Wolf understands. You don't drink Stella for the taste, you drink it to oblivion, and while you're getting there - enjoy the ride.
Uberwozza
Paul you are a dunce with no taste for good lager...why don't you tuck your skirt into your knickers and run home to mummy?
Seb
Can anyone tell me what goes into draught stella in the UK? I'm guessing it ain't jus springwater, hops, yeast and barley...
Guy
GREATEST BEER IN THE WORLD. END OF

The best brew on the continent... But why does the version exported to Ireland in can taste so poor
Andy

Basic Lager lout international Yob beer. Also commonly purchased in crates on booze cruises. Ale is Preferable
Patrick Gray
Don't know what they put in it, but women aplenty in our neck of the woods are sure to grimace when they refer to a man's stella moment.. Ouch on both counts!
Northern Monkey Clone
stella is a beer which is huge in england simply because it is one of the strongest freely available beers, found in most supermarket stalls where you dont have to rummage through a tiny shelf or go to a specialist beer store in order to get good quality. sure there are better beers, erdinger for example but stella is good quality and easily available! everyone stop complaining!!!
Moxon davids
If its so bad, why is it by far the best selling lager in the UK? Statistics show better volumes than single opinions, therefore indicating you don't have a clue what you're talking about! Stella is not only reassuringly expensive but also most refreshingly inspiring as one of the finest beers ever made.
Tim King
Gunners (artillerymen for you civvies)fire for effect, Stella drinkers drink for effect - nothing to do with taste, it's the results after firing a few that they're interested in. Might as well drink anti-freeze!
Champagne Charlie
Stella is one of the few beers that tastes ok out of cans (I mean the bootleg stuff imported by blokes with vans rather than the brewed in the UK stuff which is sharp and nasty). Stella in pubs is also uniformly bad, reminding you not of the mild sweetness of the Belgian original but simply of a strong lager that will knock you over if you have a session on it.
Really, if you are going to drink Stella, look on the can or bottle to see where it's brewed and if it's brewed in the UK put it back.
El Tigre Del Norte
stella goes down great...and what a hit, i as fed up goin ot and drinkin gallons of lager and feelin tipsy and full. on 2 pints of the stuff you feel untouchable, 4 pints your patter is superb your talkin no sense and you know it but you dont care, 6 pints woooooooooooooaaaaaahhhhhh!
i managed 7 pints once, blackouts ensued. i have gone no further into great canyon of inebriation that is STELLA. fundamental!
oanyego
One of the best Belgium pils beers together with Maes Pils and Primus Haacht. No more, no less. Always good to drink on a Friday night together with your friends in a bar.
Tom, Bornem, Belgium
FYI
There's a bar at Fort Myers Beach in Florida USA called the Dusseldorf that carries Stella on tap.
Mandy
Y THE HELL R PEEPS SO BOTHRD??!
MEL
I have got to say that Stella's my English husband's favorite beer- and it doesn't make him want to beat me- it makes him want to do other things to me... P.S. You can get a really good one on tap at the Fitzpatrick Hotel in Chicago.
Brittany
Stella what else can i say the name its self is beautiful
pasta chucker
This beer kicks ass!! I had 19 the other night, think im addicted!
DrunkBee
19 egg cups full yeah! i'll tell you when your addicted, funny man.

Stella is not bad. For a Belgian beer, it is an average beer. But, don't compare it with e.g. Duvel, which is, "probably the best beer in the world".
duvel_lovers_are_better_lovers
Stella was the first and still is the only beer I love. Being 16 I've yet to taste much variety, but after downing Budvar, Tiger, Orangeboom and various other sligtly less comerical beers, I still think the widely available Stella Artois is superior. The 5.2%ABV is misleading however, as it's effect is far stronger than it suggests.
Tom Bulford
Stella superior to Budvar?! What is the world coming to? Damn your eyes, Interbrew...
Oliver
A refreshing, pleasingly light, yet full strength, flavoursome beer, just right at the end of the day, in the beer garden with friends, in the tropics.
Joanna Wild
I am never happier than when i am in the arms of my aunty Stella.
stibbsy
Stella is not a bad pils beer in comparison with its international competitors (such as Corona, Heineken, Bud,...) and national competitors (such as Bel Pils or Jupiler) but I must say that I prefer the Primus Pils from Brewery Haacht over this Interbrew product. Try to visit café 'T Brouwershof on the other site of the road located just accross the entrance of Brewery Haacht. This is the only place in the world where you can taste the unfiltered Primus Pils (unique in the world!!!): simply delicious!!
Tom, Bornem, Belgium
Just showed up in my local Ralph's Grocery store (a major mass market grocery chain here in Southern California, USA) and I tried it on the strength of it's Belgian origin. Not great, but not bad either. My significant other Jan, who hates Pilsner Urquel, might tolerate it, but she would choose Chimay, of any color, first.
At $8.99/6 plus our local sales tax, it's pretty pricey.
Duvel 25 oz. goes for $5.65 and would ALWAYS be my first choice.
Mike Gove
after brief flings with fosters, heineken and carlsberg, i find myself returning to stella every time. and im temping in an off licence, so i get it well cheap... great stuff.
Madioce
nasty chemical laden soup of a beer.. gives me migranes. AVOID!
bri
The Belgian product has more body and gives the taste buds more of a buzz. The UK-brewed beer is dull by comparison.
Mike Juniper
Stella is nothing short of superb. Here in Florida there's almost no advertising which is a shame. More people need to try this beer---fantastic. Every pub should have it on draft.
Kiitty
belgium stella, aye. none aye that uk brewed shite. ken whay aye mean likesay!!
Paul Jock
Stella is a light refreshing summertime beer. I often refer to this type of beer as "lawnmower beer" because you can safely have one or two while you're mowing the lawn or shortly thereafter. Actually I find it infinitely more enjoyable having a Stella or two while sitting on the patio and watching my son mow the lawn. Seriously though, Stella Artois is more of a "cult" beer over here in the States - not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but there are other more enjoyable brews - too many as this web site can attest. I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and am lucky that there are several local microbreweries that allow me to fill up my growlers with fresh draft beer after having a pint or two of course. A favorite of mine is Lancaster Brewing Company [url in list of brewery websites] Check it out. And stop by if you're in the area ... I'll buy you a brew.
Joe Knepper
Stella has always had the nickname 'Tortoise' in the region I live, i.e 5 pints of Stella and you'll be walking like....you get the rest.
Rob
stella is the shiznits, im 19 and a little while ago was gettin called a lightweight, by my heineken drinking buddies, so the following saturday i persuaded them to back up this statement by drinking stella with me for a night...... well, half a night as it turned out to be.
the taste is fine and the price turns out cheaper than other beers considering you can get away with drinking about 3 less pints while maintaining a stupidly high blood alcohol level.
Butler
Red drinks Stella straight from his Stella beer fridge from Comet!
Bring it on Mr.Artois you are the daddy. Beat my wife!
Red
Really a lackluster brew. It's pleasant enough, but it's not outstanding and there are certainly less expensive domestic beers that are as good. It's mild, with a bit of lemon in the taste and a bit of hoppy zip. Nice, but not that nice.
James Wood
Just what you need in the evening after your lover has returned to his wife.
Amy
I started drinking Stella because of its good taste. Now I drink it because of all the good memories it bring's back for me. It has always been a good friend
Jørn
While studying for 5 years in the UK Stella was my true companion. This is a girl that will never let you down, and who will be at your side all day and night. Definitely the best beer around, for you who don't agree, then check out the clear colours. Just that should be enough to convince most people. Shame it is so hard to get hold of in Norway, which for the sake of argument has got quite a few good brands of beer.
Christian
It's OK isn't it but no better than that really. Certainly the bottled stuff has a bit more to it than the draft, which, served in pints is pants.
Like Andy Cooper I knew a belgian who would say "In Belgium, we drink Duvel and piss Stella". Unlike Andy's mate there was no accent because his english was better than mine. I did have the suspicion that he would have said this about any beer I was drinking other than Duvel.
Stella, a thirst quencher and gets you drunk, but Jupiler is better in this regard. Unfortunately, we are stuck with Stella- it could be worse (Foster, Kronenburg, Carling, Carlsberg etc).
John K
The worst beer ever...
dom
THE TOP OF THE TREE FOR LAGERS IN THE WORLD...SIMPLY CANNOT BE BEATEN!
JAKE
I like Stella. But I'd have an Amstel every day!
Wim
Stella isn't that bad. It's the worst Belgian beer I have ever had, certainly, but that's pitting it against some pretty stiff competition. In Irish pubs, we are stuck with a choice of Bud, Carlsberg, or Heineken, sometimes Miller. Stella beats these hands down.
Blorg
There is a vast difference between the Belgian brew and the English brewed one. Avoid the English brew. How can it be authentic if brewed in England? Do they import the water? I don't think so.
Naked_Jane
We call it wifebeater, 10 cans of wifebeater and 1-0 to Scotland. gets some beds ready in the Battered Wife unit ready!
Gary Johnstone
Stella is good but I recomend you all Cusqueña from Perú. This is a really irresistible premium lager beer, excellent body, addecuate retroflavour, etc. The problem is: Where you can obtain one?.
Andrea Di Ferneccio
Very well marketed, but the metallic taste leaves me totally unimpressed. Haven't tried the Belgian version, however.
Glyn B
Try Jupiler, much better.
bob
After spending some time improving my drinking in the UK, I have become a Stella believer. Happy to find it in New York now, I have continually reminded people that the proper nickname for this lager is 'Wife Beater'. Good stuff.
Nicky
The imported version in 500ml cans or 330/660 bottles is vastly superior to the UK-brewed swill. It is easily recognisable and can be bought in many off-licences in the North - including mine ! Highfield O/L ,Corner Common Edge Rd Blackpool
alan
Apparently I'm not much of connoissuer. But I think all this "nose," "high-notes," "end-notes" talk is a bit overdone. So, cut the crap! This is BEER we're talking about here, not some hoity-toity Frenchy wine-tasting contest! And the several glasses of draft Stella Artois I recently enjoyed in Hong Kong were truly refreshing. Light, but tasty. In my estimation, a really easy-going lager and very drinkable.
Colorado Bobs
Stella Artois is simply a superb lager. Sure, it can taste rather sterile when drank from the tin, but if you've ever had a GOOD pint of Stella in a pub, you'll know what I mean when I say that it's a very distinctive drink with a good strength that doesn't spoil the admittedly subtle taste.
Compared to what is possibly it's major competitor, Kronenbourg, Stella Artois wins in the taste department big time, in my book.
Jay
Stella Artois is gorgeous, it's the best lager in the world without a doubt...anyone who can't taste that and prefer the likes of Amstel must be crazy. Pints of Stella from a pub, cans of Stella, bottles of Stella, warm, flat Stella...they are all the same, FLIPPING GORGEOUS!
Stellaholic
A beer that my wife likes. Produces marvellous burps and very little else. if this is a 6, than Duvel is a 20. More like a 4.
Frank Young
Quote "...Pints of Stella from a pub, cans of Stella, bottles of Stella, warm, flat Stella...they are all the same,FLIPPING GORGEOUS..."
I agree with this contributer's comment - apart from the last two words.
Substitute the adjectives VERY ORDINARY and I agree 100%
Richard English
Stella is a very sucessfull marketing ploy, ok its not up to other Belgian brews, no body said it was, it sells for fun, be it in can, keg, or bottle its the best premium lager you can get in the uk, just watch out for 5/6 new lagers hitting the uk as interbrew mutes into AMBEV , you heard it here first...
accyboy
I agree with all wife beater comments, I drank 16 and a half (dont 4 get the half) pints on my 18th birthday and drove home. so stop pussying around and get that stella supped.
big joe the trackburner
Stella isn't one of the greatest Belgian beers but the difference between the imported stuff and the vile shit-smelling UK-brewed poison is like night and day!The problem is that water quality in your country is terrible!
pugs the monkey
My partner wants to know the same thing as Simon above. How many cals in a pint of stella? and how many carbs are there.
Lesley
Goes down easy, not really hard but gives the effect, not one of the best beers but beter than crap like American/ Canadian beer like blue, bud, molson etc.
Very pricy up here in Canada tho
21 canadian $ for 12 pack tax included.
still I like the best effect of a black bull best beer that i have ever tried up to now.

I dont rate it out of the bottle or can and most places serve a crap pint.
I find pubs in Cornwall serve a nice pint of stella - a bit flatter rather than super fizzy. Goes down well but they dont call it wife beater for nothing!
Simon
THERE IS NO GREATER LAGER - nothing comes close. Strong enough, and the taste is sublime, from beginning to end. I disagree strongly with R.Davies - Mondeo? What a load of shite. I'd say more like a 328i - highly regarded in the areas a man cares about, good power, and an appropriate price tag.
Ade
It is puzzling to many Belgians why Interbrew decided to market Stella Artois rather than Jupiler. Ip is probably because Stella is more easily pronounced in other countries because Jupiler is the better beer in my book.
Ilja, Belgium
Mmmmmmmh Doughnuts..... Whoops wrong website. Doh!!
Homer J Simpson
Known as wife beating beer in the North East of England. Not as good as 1664.
Ade
The current advertising campaign calls it "reassuringly expensive". I despair for the modern world if the fact that what is effectively bottled urine (albeit less potent and palatable) is overpriced (let alone priced at all)is "reassuring". Assure yourselves of this...Stella Artois is disgusting.
J. Ashbey
Tastes like metal from a can, little better from a bottle. Too sharp and no head, not much flavour. Gets you there quick but a mother of a hangover. Can get better for less. Verdict, below par.
Phil
Ahhh Stella. The beer of champions. Try drinking 22 pints of the stuff in 3 hours. It truly is a wonderful experience.
Oxygene65
it taste great and it taste even better when i can buy two boxes of the stuff for twenty quid at ASDA, and who gives a toss how many cals, and carbs there are
Steve D.
Have any of you any idea? This is a cheap, misleading, horrid substance that gives you the ability to see 4 of everything, throw up, beat your 4 wives (with each of your 4 arms)and collapse in a heap! Great isnt it!
Damaging Justice
Jupiler is defintely the better beer made by Interbrew. As for any one who celebrates Stella because it nicknamed wife-beater, well you need serious help. I dont rate it brilliant or overly crap, but would rather drink other beers.
G Evans
anyone who likes stella doesnt like beer. simlple. in fact i challenge anyone to drink a warm pint of stella, then come back and say it tastes great!! the coldness only numbs the 'flavour' it doesnt change it. ignorance...
innocentbystander
It is a cheaply made commercial brew. the quality of the ingredients alone prevent the beer being good, except for a tiny quantity of Saaz hops which they use to justify the inflated price.
Objectively, it is a mediocre beer with little character or taste and I feel that those contributors who rave about it widen their experience a little. Certainly in Belgium - where it comes from - very little is drunk and Jupiler is the beer of choice.
Peter
Innocentbystander,
What you say is rubbish, some things are meant to be cold and some things are meant to be hot or warm even.
Coffee and tea should be hot and lager should be cold and real ale should be around 52 degrees.
The temperature has a direct effect on the taste, if you are not sure try cold fish and chips washed down with a cold cup of 'hot' chocolate
Graffenwalder
How many calories in 500 ml can of Stella Artois
Melanie
i have seen the violence behind this lager and it is horrific many of my friends problems drinking it as it sends them into violent luntics. It should be taken off the market and investigated for it's contents, sends placid men and women into rages hence it being called 'wife beater'
chelsea
Where is the nearest place to get masa amounts of Stella from the Dallas/ Fort Worth Area? Dont want to get it shipped all the way from Europe.
Kelly
UK market Stella is not the real thing, different to the Belgian brew. A cheap imitation made by Whitbread with a cocktail of chemicals...hence the bad hangover after 2 pints and the violence! Avoid it.
Mark
Kelly, BELGIUM BEER SHOP online sells it, but the shipping is high $$$$$$. But you can also purchase JUPILER & MAES PILSNER along with other Belgian beers. Im in the DFW area also, and have yet to find Stella anywhere. Somebody told me Kronenbourg 1664 is sold in the metroplex, but I havent found that yet either.
Kevin
Thanks so much Kevin, ill keep looking for it. Like to find the place that sells Kronenbourg as well. I guess ill keep looking, thanks again though
Kelly
After sampling a pint in the UK, I am hooked! Until sometime in 2004, it wasn't available in Arizona. If anyone is looking in Phoenix area, the British Open Pub and a convenience store called D's Market (both in Scottsdale) sell it. Like Kelly, I'm about to move to Dallas and want to find it. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
KellyA
We enjoyed drinky cold stella on holidays France this summer. Where in the Uk can you buy those stem glasses with the rose motif?
Steve
Guys, it's got corn (maize) in it. I don't see how they can market it as being in some great European brewing tradition when it's made with corn. Am I missing something here? None of the German beers I drink have corn in them. Don't any of you feel suckered when you find out your beer has some other cheap grain in it? Exceptions for Asian beers brewed with rice - local conditions and all. Yeah, I'd expect corn in a New World beer, but a Belgian beer? I'm never drinking this stuff again.
Eckhart
Quote "i have seen the violence behind this lager and it is horrific many of my friends problems drinking it as it sends them into violent luntics. It should be taken off the market and investigated for it's contents, sends placid men and women into rages hence it being called 'wife beater"
Tad unfair dont you think, any alcohol that has a high ABV is going to effect people, its how people react to alcohol that has given this fantastic lager a bad name. Its people who cant control themselves that should be banned from drinking it.
Joe
Bit of a rant....here we go, i am 21 and english and love beer! after reading the above reviews and reading spme of the other comments made on beers such as bud, miller, fosters etc.. (you know the ones i mean) i just feel sad that these are the beer's that populate most of the pubs in this country and it seem others. stellar is pretty bad (some places charging £2.80 a pint thats nearly $6 if your from US) The other strange thing that comes with this style of "beer" is its pop culture aspect, why going out on a sat night and trying to get up to your eyeballs on cheaply made brew when one could be tasting some of the many hundreds of amazing and different, quality beers on this site. It is deeply depressing!!
Will
My local corner shop, sold me the imported brew cheaper than the UK brew. Surely the imported brew should be more expensive?????
Monkey Aaron
The UK Stella isnt actually that bad. It's not great but it's cheap and quite strong. Some people call it "wife beater" in the misled belief that it makes you more aggressive. In fact it is only the fact that it is slightly stronger than most other canned beers that causes people who are prone to be violent anyway to perhaps end up drinking more alcohol. It does not make you violent.
Mikey
Supreme lager!!!Brewed here in the UK under strict quality controls....You get what you pay for..reassuringly.......
Big Hitter
Ok we all know the bigest aid (apart from birds) to start a fight in a pub is wife beater. But is it full of chemicals??????. To settle a bet i've got down me local can some'one tell me where to find a web site tell'ing me what's in it.
Matt
I love stella...its a gr8 taste. Lots of people i know drink stella. and i'm a girl of 16!
Marie
And I bet she wears burberry too.
chavster
If you have ever tasted the tap water in Luton then you know why the brewed in the UK stuff tastes so bad!!!
HiP
people discussing the taste of stella are missing the point, the taste is irrelevant, i mean, becks is better tasting. You drink stella to absolutely battered off your face and have happy memory loss the next day.
For accessible beers with taste, discounting the belgian quality beers like rocheford, st.nicklaus etc. (cos where can you get them in your local???) try budvar or staropramen. French imported kronenberg is a winner also.
beerdave
FOR ME, STELLA IS THE BEST. FAR BETTER THAN ANY EXPENSIVE CHAMPAGNE. LIKE TEA IN A CHINA CUP,IT NEEDS TO BE IN THE SPECIAL GLASS FOR FULL ENJOYMENT
ELAINE IN SHEFFIELD
Stella contains 221 calories thats for a 550ML can, but I love it.
Taj Matharu
I couldnt compliment this stuff enough, of all the mass produced, widely available canned & bottled lagers this has to be the best. Stronger and sharper. And sorry Elaine I think it tastes best out of a can. Some pubs either cool it too much or just dont clean their pipes so you sometimes get a really bad pint. I really would not drink anything else though.
Andy in Manchester
Honestly, as a student it is probably one of the best beers to drink in terms of slightly compromising the taste of the beer in order to benefit more from the reason we drink beer... to get bladdered
i heart beer
mmmmmmmm.... stellaaaaaaa :p
it's so smooth n tastey n lovely
stella alcoholic
You love a real bad headache the day after? Yeah, go ahead and drink this "chateau de la migraine" of beers.
Steph
its bloody lovely
jack solovan
Aaahh Stella. The staple piss up juice for revellers which is drunk cos it's 5.2% wow. Actually tastes a bit stronger than it really is and I find it has a bitter after taste. Found everywere in the UK and is probally responsible for casulty filling up on a fri & sat night. The most acclaimed belgium beer, Bollocks! 4/10

Had my first SA in Toronto. I'm no expert, but it tasted smooth and no bitter taste. Way better then American beer!

some guy says he had 19 pints of Stella? i'd sure like to see him after that! what a **** liar? stellas good but its not as good as Cobra now thats what i call a Beer ;)
Themanfromuncle
known to many as "wife beater juice" because of the many acts of violence that it causes, simply because it sends people into an agressive rage and makes them go loopy!
Tim, London, UK
Stella does make people more agressive due to the chemicals that it is made with! it doesnt matter that its 5.2% ABV, that has nothing to do with the violence it causes. If you have ever been to Thailand and drunk Chang Beer, that is 6.2% ABV and that doesnt send you into an agressive drunk like stella does. In short, the agressiveness and violence that stella causes comes from the chemicals, not because it has a high alcohol content in comparison to other beers. Enjoy!
Matt, Uk
Oi get it down yer neck and give your lass an' hidin.....hail to wife beater.....heil
baz n craig from whitby
I had two cans of Stella last night and woke up this morning feeling very ill with a pounding headache, surely not a hangover after such a small amount? It must be the chemicals they put in it 'enhance its market appeal'. I would really like to know if Stella has been independantl analysed to discover exactly what concoction we are being served up!
Mike, Sutton Coldfield, UK
It's called wifebeater in London! Foul tasting chemical ridden nonsense
therave
Wife beater. A crap chemical mix, brewed in England and loved by neds and chavs all over the UK. Even the Belgian version is poor. I have Belgian mates who laugh at the thought of drinking that shite. Reasurringly expensive? If you think six 500ml cans for a fiver is expensive then you should've stuck in at school got a decent job. :-)

Neil Wigan - drink a bottle of something decent like Fullers ESB (5.9%) or Youngs Special London (6.4%) first - then try drinking Stella and see how foul it tastes by comparison. The kindest description is "weird lemonade".

Me and my mate Joey find Stella Artois very tasty. I love mine with a twist of lime coupled with a frosted glass. Very smooth especially mixed with woodpecker cider. Delicious.

i am sure the are tons of real belgian beers that are better than stella, but i don't have access to them here in the states or when i lived in the u.k. stella is a great lager and i enjoy
it every time i have a bottle or pint of it. i hear a lot of people say it packs a punch, but i don't think so. two thumbs up.
lagerboy
Not a bad taste, but dont call it beer, its LAGER a drink for women and children

Stella is the best imported beer in the UK. I belive it is best served very cold with a small head in a stella glass. It's strong alocoholic contect allows you to enjoy a pint either slowly or quickly! Watch that price though, from a students perspective as much as we love the stuff it too expensive. Make it more accessible for us too!
Etc2
Very little said previously about the price. Rather expensive draught is great. Bottles not so good. Label boring unattractive and out of date. Need to market bottles more at a cheaper price.
Wendy Smith
£2.40 for a pint of Stella Artois in my local - love the stuff!
Boooooooooooooooooootiful!

tastes good, too expensive for what it is. same stuff in usa is half the price.

Really? Tried them all have you?
And, by the way, it's not imported it's brewed in the UK in Ambev's chemical fizz factory.
And yes, it is rubbish - good only by the standards of those who know no better and have tried little else.
Richard English
You guys think 5.2% alcohol is strong? HA HA HA HA HA!!!! What a bunch of wusses - no wonder you talk about "wifebeater" - that's how wusses talk.

I know that the Belgian stuff is better but i dont live in Belgium. £2.60 a pint in Bottisham British Legion. four of those and a bottle of white wine at home aids restful sleep
Andrew . Bottisham
Quote "...£2.60 a pint in Bottisham British Legion...." Are you telling me that they don't serve proper beer in Bottisham British Legion? It's a shame you have to pay this kind of money for that kind of rubbish. I'd complain if I were you.
Oh, and by the way, Belgian beers are readily available in most UK towns although I can't speak for Bottisham, of course, never having been there. I can get it where I live, though.
Richard English
Why is stella brewed in UK so disgusting but the stuff from abroad is smooth and quality tasting?
expert
It's a beer... what more can I say. Cider is where the taste is. Nothing beats a pint of drink that you cannot see through and looks like water from a muddy puddle... with a nice 7% for good measure.
m4rcus
Stopped drinking this now, never beat anyone but makes me argumentative. Usually a very placid bloke...
Rico
I've drunk this stuff on and off for years now and would say that the UK brewed stella in cans and now it would seem in bottles, is very poor. It has a bland chemical taste and gives me a hangover if I drink more than 4 pints. Earlier this summer we had been buying stella in 660 and 330cl bottles which were really good - great yeasty nose and taste - and no headache. Just bought some more 330cl from supermarket today and it is crap, just the same as the canned stuff. Close examination of the label reveals that is brewed by Interbrew in Luton - say no more. Nothing on the box to indicate that this is different to the imported gear - what a con and how very Piat D'Or.
Peter
This is by far the best beer...leave ur heiniken or duff or coors at home cuz this is what the world population needs!!!

I think it's great that it's sold as reassuringly expensive when it's not even unreassuringly expensive. what is that all about? tastes vile too.

It was quite clear to me from your previous post that you must be something other than a beer lover. Anyone who believes that "Stella...is the best beer ever created" obviously knows very little about beer.
I am pleased you cleared up the matter of your status for us.
Richard English
Stella Artois, undisputably, unrefutably, undebatably the best, most smoothest drinkable beer in the world. Love it to the max. Better than Chang, Tiger, Heineken or a tall cool glass of Budweiser. Simply love it. Corona and Asahi aren't that bad too. =) Too bland u might say? Why, thats how beers should be! Light, refreshing and definitely Drinkable!

Gurds Sahota
Quote "...Too bland u might say? Why, thats how beers should be!..."
Indeed, this is quite true if your palate is so immature that it doesn't like flavour. That's why children like jelly and ice-cream and dislike, say, smoked salmon.
It's all to do with becoming mature and, sadly, many drinkers never reach the maturity necessary to appreciate fine beer - hence the success of the chemical fizz brewers who manufacture rubbish like Stella Artois.
It's an unsophisticated drink for the unsophisticated drinker's unsophisticated palate.
Richard English
Wifebeater is acceptable lager the get u pissed, not quality, but it is advertised as if its something very special which it is not. Kinda nice taste though.

Thank you for your comment. I will disregard your ignorant and offensive style and deal with your question.
My point was in response to Taj Matharu who said "...Stella Artois is the love of my life I love Stella to bits it is the best beer ever created..."
Nobody who makes that kind of statement can be taken seriously since nobody has tried all the beers in the world that presently exist, let alone all that have ever been created. That kind of extreme exaggeration does its makers no credit at all.
I suggest that I know far more about Stella than Taj Matharu knows about the entire panoply of the world's beers.

Not quite but I can assure you that every one of my body parts is the same age as I am - and every one of them works perfectly.
A tribute to a lifetime of drinking good beers - those quite unlike Stella Artois, in other words.
Popular, expensive, hugely profitable for InBev, yes. Fine beer, not in a million years.
Soniya S, I would be very happy to meet with you at one of England's fine pubs )or maybe the GBBF) and help you to learn the difference between Stella Artois and fine beer.
Richard English
I am going up the pub

No better lager! It is there for you through thick a thin. Yes it has caused injuries and broken up relationships. But who can say that waking up in your own urine on someones sofa who you have never meet, is not what you want from a beer. Also mixes well with cider and blackcurrent cordial
The Punisher
What do you base all your negative comments on Richard English? Have you worked for InBev? Or do you work for a competitor and are trying to rubbish it?
The voice of reason
I have just received an official ban from my wife, from ever drinking this in quantities every again. I am a mild mannered, family loving, local repsectable businessman. For the last time this weekend I was just a drunken mess having downed 10 pints of the stuff. Showing little attention to my wife, shouting at Police Officers, getting cocky with random strangers, urinating openly in public, spilling drinks everywhere, agrravating all my friends and partners, sptting while talking, and finally vomitting over a car bonnet.
I love the stuff but I'm afraid my Stella days are over.
Its been nice knowing you.
Steven - North West England
ok the picture above shows imported stella , so does anyone know where this originates from.its brewed in belguim but it doesnt taste like the native stella. it may have been brewed for a foriegn market , but why ?
the imported version is a smooth crisp clean lager with no chemical taste at all and very little hang over effect.unlike the uk brewed stuff which is awfull at best.
so buy the imported stuff ,and if you find where to buy this amazing beer share with us please.

STELLA! STELLA! This stuff is proper loopy juice. I have necked severalk before deciding to google "wifebeater" and finding this site. I love it but will probably pay for it later.
The man they call Jigga
Guvnr, you can go to Leuven and get a tour round the brewery for 6 euros. Phone ahead, as they don't do daily tours, you get tagged on to a group tour.
Stella's ok, but as stated before the quality is variable from pub to pub. Some managers don't seem to clean their pump lines regularly(urgh) avoid at all costs, or your stomach will pay for it in the morning.

I did respond to this earlier but somehow my response didn't appear.
I base my comments on 45 years of drinking, and studying, beers throughout the world.
I do not work for InBev or any other brewer but don't consider I need to in order to comment authoritively.
I have never worked for Rolls-Royce or Ford, but have owned vehicles made by both manufacturers and feel competent to compare, and should I wish to do so, comment on them.

lets not stray from the point here
stella artois provides a taste and sense of refreshment that no other beer comes close to. If you weaklings want to keep on drinking the flavoured water that is 'fosters' and 'budweiser then do so. But however dont come on here and make out you know what your talking about.
geoff goond
Quote "...lets not stray from the point here stella artois provides a taste and sense of refreshment that no other beer comes close to. ..."
You've tried all other beers have you?
I am reasonably sure that I have tried more different beers than have you and I find that Stella Artois is a poor drink. It has very little flavour and is almost indistinguishable from other ersatz pilsners - including those you cite. It is, I accept, a whole 0.2% abv stronger than Dudweiser - but alcoholic strength is not the only criterion of quality; there are many beers of lower abv which have far greater compexity than does Stella Artois.
Probably this rubbish drink's primary virtue is that it makes a lot of money for InBev who have persuaded young and gullible drinkers that, by paying a premium price, they are getting a premium product. In truth, of course, all they are getting is more expensive rubbish.
Come Mr Goond - try a few real quality beers (this site has plenty reviewed) and come back and post again when your palate has matured. Then you, too, will be able to claim that you know what you are talking about.
Richard English
Last Saturday I was offered a beer at a rally by a couple of Australians and accepted it. It was a can of Stella Artois and, not wishing to appear churlish, I took a glug. Oh yuk! It was worse than I remembered. At first taste it had a vague flavour of beer that was almost nostalgic, but that quickly decayed to a cardboardy flabbiness that decayed to nothing. No appreciable finish and certainly I was left with no desire to drink the whole can (which I was able to hide).
Fortunately I had brought with me some bottles of Coniston Bluebird and Freeminer Gold Miner and was able to return the favour by offering it to my new-found Australian friends.
The look on their faces when they drunk, for probably the first time ever, a decent beer was something to see. Their remarks along the lines of "I never realised that beer could taste so good" and "are all English beers so wonderful?" were music to my ears and, having disposed of a dozen bottles (500s) between the three of us, we retired at peace with the world!
Richard English
Can't believe this beer gets such a slating. It tastes far better than most beers out there. Full of body and widely available.
Up the Stella!
Jim Bates
As an alcoholic (now in recovery), I used to have a herculean capacity for practically any form of alcoholic drink. I take no pride in this - it's just a statement for the sake of context.
I only used to drink beer in social situations (downing a bottle of vodka in public is frowned upon in polite society) but even when I was at my worst, the only drink I wouldn't touch with a bargepole was Stella Artois.
Over the years, I became almost immune to hangovers, even after a night consuming quantities of alcohol that most would consider distressing, frankly. But nothing, nothing, prepared me for the skull-splitting agony that even a very modest session on Stella inflicted the morning after.
For self-preservation, I ended up being very particular about what I would drink (if you think Smirnoff's "filtered ten times" is marketing guff, take it from me, you're wrong). Anyway, Stella Artois is, in my considerable experience, by far the worst example of unnecessary chemical additives in a drink causing real harm. That an alcoholic would refuse Stella Artois says a lot about the product.
Orange Juice
Quote "...It tastes far better than most beers out there...."
Could you please let us know which beers you refer to when you write of "most beers"? Better than Dudweiser, probably. Better than Carling? Certainly. Better than any one of the hundred of properly brewed beers and ales - certainly not.
Richard English
Chill out Richard, I like my beer, you like yours. Each to their own I say. If we all had the same taste it would be a very boring and sad state of society. Variety is the spice of life. If you like something else, well Good for you, enjoy it. LEAVE STELLA ALONE.
Taj Matharu
..Ok, it may not be 'the best lager/ beer' blah blah blah in the whole bloomin world, however, I'd say good ol Stella is now doubt the best (readily available on tap) lager you can get in England....'HIC'..
The whole rubbish about 'wife beating' and 'hangovers from Hell' must purely be down to the disposition of the person drinking it. This stuff's good, has a great taste and makes you feel your £2.60 has done its job. (unlike the Carlsberg 'dog poo breath' lager, not forgetting Mr Budweiser 'so sweet your teeth will rot', Fosters 'amber H2O', or Carling 'get no-where but pee-a-helluva-lot.') Oh, and (for whoever mentioned it) Sam Smiths own brew is bloomin terrible. O.k, its cheap, but unless you enjoy replicating the effect of someone hitting you in the head with a brick after 6 pints this suspicious fluid most definatley isnt for you.

Gurdish Sahota
Quote, "...Richard, what do you know about life anyway..."
More, I would guess, than you. Or maybe you would like to share your considerable life experiences and knowledge of beers with the rest of us, thus proving me wrong.
Or maybe you'll just slink away quietly as do most of the other trolls who burrow into this site.
Richard English
Quote "...Chill out Richard, I like my beer, you like yours..."
You have that right. Now, I have tasted Stella (and I guess around a thousand other beers) - how many have you tried? Maybe you could give us the benefit of your experience.
And I have no intention of leaving Stella alone. The brewers of Stella share with Anheuser Busch the desire to get everyone in the world drinking their overpriced concoctions and, in many countries of the world have succeeded. They are simply multi-billion pound conglomerates who care nothing for beer and everything for profit.
What's the matter with you - aren't you proud of the country that you grew up in? Do you want our wonderful brewing tradition to die, as have the brewing traditions of so many other countries? Or are you quite uncaring as you don't come from England?
Richard English
Listen Richard, I understand you have a point to make, although you make the same point a thousand times. Do you not have a job or is tasting beer your job. Well whatever the case may be, there is no need to attack someone elses race. Taj maybe an indian name that does not mean he is from anywhere else. That was a purely racist remark and there was no need for it. So your a racist beer taster, the words lager lout come to mind. I can clearly imagine what you must look like. Maybe you should try educating yourself in other aspects of life rather than just beer.
Gurdish Sahota
Quote "...Well whatever the case may be, there is no need to attack someone elses race..."
I'm sorry. What is racist about my remark? I depolore racism in all its forms and, as for educating myself about life, I have travelled extensively and met people from just about every country, class, creed and race.
If you choose to infer from my comments something that I neither said nor implied, then you have that right - but it is your inference, not my words that is causing you grief.
Would you, incidentally, have drawn this conclusion were I responding to a post from someone called Hamish McCunn?
Richard English
The most terrible I'd ever drunk.
Aron Kovacs
hey what's with everyone talking about how expensive it is?? I realize that in the UK they used to have those ads saying "reassuringly expensive", but i thought it was a joke. In the US, anyway, you can get it for $4 or $5 a pint. Am I wealthy and don't know it?? I didn't realize that was expensive.
kim jackson
You don't have to get Stella shipped from Europe (for my fellow americans) - you can buy it at a lot of stores in major cities, and lots of bars serve it too. But, if you can't find a place that serves it, try going to a place like World Market or Whole Foods. Not to be snobby, but I think it's kind of funny when Americans act like Stella is so fancy b/c it's imported. It's not fancy at all! ha. but anyway, I do like it, and it seems to be getting more popular in the states... I should say I think it tastes kinda nasty actually, and it just has a high alcohol count. cheers
james king
stella artois is to belgium, what fosters is to australia, shit beer which which does not represent the real beers that come from that country, it is a vile beer that does not deserve to even be called beer, there are so many belgian beers and all of them better than stella, its called "wife beater" for a reason, thats because you turn into a wanker when you drink it!R.Davies you were to nice about this discusting liquid!

Tutti Face
Quote "...I love Stella cause 3 pints get me merry, yay..............
So why do you think this is? Could it be that it's very slightly stronger than Dudweiser? If you like to get tipsy, why not try some real beer, then you'll not get the hangover that Stella will give you.
Plus, of course, real beer is cheaper than Stella's overpriced rubbish.
Richard English
Richard's really got it in for Stella - the way he harrangues those who like it anyone would think it's the worst beer in the world instead of one of the better more commercially available ones. Richard, you pompous ass, you probably judge Stella against beers which are superior but have never been heard of by most people like a brew made by an obscure order of Monks to a recipie kept secret since the Anglo Saxons invaded. You may well have tasted better beer, and you may well be initiated into a secret fraternity of beer connoisseurs that have a special handshake known only to members(Naturally you are a Grand Master) but when it comes to rubbishing everyone(Who may not be a brewing aesthete) elses opinion on Stella I'll leave you with a quote from Winston Churchill " The greatest lesson one can learn in life is that even fools are right sometimes".
Stanley Kowalski
if you ask me.. prefer something with a little more body and less fizz.. i think people aspire to drink stella as a 'bling' style status symbol, following the 'reassuringly expensive' advertising campaign. Much like chavs wearing cheap crappy Elizabeth Duke gold sovereign rings in the vain hope that they're mistaken for someone with class and real money.. :)
Tongeh
As an employee of inbev uk everybody should know that this beer is full of chemicals and all kinds of shite it is over priced and know where near as good as carling. But the arogant management still hope that you will buy it more fool you if you do. You have been warned.

Is Bulmers anbd Magners the same thing guys? I know I'm drifting off the beer subject but sources seem to state that Magners is just a repackaged Bulmers for the British market but I swear they taste noticeably different!
Taj Matharu
I will not be drawn into a slanging match with those, like Mr Kowalski, who find it difficult to make a point without being personally abusive. I will, however, refute the ridiculous charge that I "...probably judge Stella against beers which are superior but have never been heard of by most people like a brew made by an obscure order of Monks to a recipie (sic) kept secret since the Anglo Saxons invaded..."
As those who take the trouble to read what I write, rather than infer what I didn't, will know very well that my comments and recommendations are typically for the beers brewed by the likes of Fuller's and Young's, and not for those brewed by obscure orders of Monks.
I refute also the charge that I rubbish, "...everyone elses (sic) opinion on Stella..."
I take leave to disagree with others' opinions; that is what debate is about. I do not, however, rubbish them and I certainly am not gratuitously offensive about them. Sadly I can't say the same about you and some of your Stella-loving co-posters, with whom you share both your offensive style and your disregard for the truth.

Richard I'd love to spend a day with you, sampling the finest ale available. Think you could teach me a thing or two.

Let me know when you're in or around London, Taj, and I will be happy to take you to some decent pubs.

we bought a case of Stella last week. About 50% of the bottles were full of 'floaters'- disgusting to look at. Having consumed two or three before this was noticed the result was an upset stomach. We returned the remainder to Asda- the outlet- and they kindly replaced it with another case - which turned out to be exactly the same. They have reported it to INBEV the supplier, and we only hope that they can confirm it is harmless before it possibly gives severe gut's ache to the rest of the population. Meanwhile one is expected to sit back and wait..........We are off Stella for good, after more than 30yrs.........

I think you should taste Carlsberg Export, it is by far a more superior taste. In fact i would reccomend you do a blind taste using any other premium beer. trust me Carlsberg Export is the best. my ranking would be
1 Carlsberg Export 2 Tuborg gold "if you can find it " 3 Poretti

ok stella is looked on as a smith or jones in the beer world, plentiful and cheap, but please dont pass up the chance to try stella that is made in belgium and not luton, it is totaly differrent to taste, a lot sweeter and less gassy.
mickey b
A LOT of comments for this beer. It's not so terrible but it's certainly not spectacular. I find it enjoyable for the first two mouthfuls but doesn't have staying power! Obviously it's not a classic belgium beer but it is not less than average for this type of beer.
Archie
It tastes like a fairly average lager, in some ways i prefer it to most lagers. As for the effect i am not so sure, it definitely has a stronger effect on me than any other beer i've tried
MrAleman
Quote "...I find it enjoyable for the first two mouthfuls but doesn't have staying power!..."
As you will see from my earlier posting, I said of this concoction, "...At first taste it had a vague flavour of beer that was almost nostalgic, but that quickly decayed to a cardboardy flabbiness that decayed to nothing...."
Good beers will linger long on the palate; rubbish beers will not.
Richard English
I prefer it to most other mass-produced lagers that are forced upon me on weekends (Carling, Fosters etc), but anyone who cares for the actual drink and not the effects, would rather indulge in a different Belgian lager, or one of the fantastic ales that this country produces. Fine for a week in Magaluf with 'the lads' when a straight-talking lager is called for, but not fulfilling for those who appreciate the qualities beer can offer. I'm not even 18 yet (or a 'beer snob') but I am sick of people claiming chemical-ridden cats piss is superior to drinks they haven't even tried.
Mcbaa
i prefer bud light over this overpriced beer.

Since it's not a massively strong beer (just 0.2% more than Dudweiser) I can assume only that its oft-quoted effects are due to the strange additives it contains. Unless it's simply that people believe the urban myth and behave accordingly.
I have drunk the stuff (otherwise how could I comment on it?) and find it a dull and flabby drink which certainly didn't make me violent or anti-social. Having said which, the taste was so awful that I probably didn't drink enough for it to have any significant effect on my metabolism. Once I'd managed to get the taste out of my mouth by swallowing a couple of pints of Summer Lightning I was as right as rain.
Richard English
hey c'mon dude, the stuff isn't that bad. by now you may no im open to all beers i see. the main problem with this beer is that it has become the flagship of chavs around Britain, which makes me embarrassed to be seen drinking it outside or from the can. not my favorite by any means but not awful.

Where can I find this beer in Mexico? Any supplier? I can be your partner in business
Interested?

This whole crap that everyone / Mr English is throwing up about the stuff is quite amusing. "Fo-Ho, it's got a flabby start, with a smidgen of cardboard in the middle, yah, persued by a minor scent of citrus with a full-bodied nose, whilst chasing a slight ... yadda-yadda yadda......Im so smart I dont like Stella....yadda yadda... chemicals,...fnarr fnarr... wife beater...... blah blah!! I mean, c'mon, It's Lager, it's cheap and cheerfull regardless! The way some of you are harping on, you should be supping wine and champers not the slobs drink. It's lager, it's beer, it's all full of crap regardless. Get over it and stop acting like your all connoisseur's. You cant polish a turd right? Oh, and I love my lager too, I just dont get mentally errect over it.

I am currently 28. And I have been drinking Stella for the past 9 years. During that time, each and everyone of my friends and dropped out from drinking it. Branding it as "the devils drink" and "that stuff makes me go crazy" "stellahead the following day" But I stuck to my guns with what I thought was the best tasting and affecting lager you could hope for.
I have since realised that the chemicals found in Stella are driving me slowly insane, causing some very strange body reactions and some uncharacteristic behavour. I have since given up this drink - I do miss the buzz it gives you on a warm summers day to slide an ice cold Stella down your neck, but I have no regrets as I am a better person for never touching the evil drink ever again.
Over and Out.

In the UK Stella is also known as "wife beater" - it tends to be the football hooligans beer of choice. It seems to have a high level of artificial chemicals and many believe it is a foul chemically ridden pint of piss, which is fine for some people. Inbev is not that pleasant either....
The Chemist
Stella is definately my beer of choice. I have to state that I always drink the imported 500ml cans I get from my local off license. The "brewed in the UK" sh*te tastes terrible. It's a bit of an annoyance having to explain to people why I don't like the UK stuff & then getting that "It's all the same" look from them.

tallica, you are talking nonsense. Your knowledge about fine beer is on a par with your knowledge of our fine language. Close to zero on present showing.
Good beers are on a par with fine wines and champagnes - indeed, many are more complex and more interesting.
I feel rather sorry for your own clear ignorance of this and sorrier still that you feel you have to share that ignorance with those of us who would prefer to discuss beer.
Richard English
do they direct fill the cans before quality control pass them off
bib cock
too many chemicals. that's all I have to say. At least in the UK version. Bring on the German purity laws Europe wide! ever tried a stella at the same time as a san miguel? ... put me off drinking stella for life. You really get to taste what's in it.
I guess 'too many chemicals' wasn't all I had to say
Paul in Glagow
Quote "...Bring on the German purity laws Europe wide! ..."
Sadly the reverse has taken place already. Under EC competition regulations, chemical fizz is now allowed to be sold in Bavaria where once the Reinheitsgebot ensured proper standards. The same has happened in the Isle of Man, which country had similar purity Laws.

Tastes like urine
Macka
Tastes of peroxide. Synthetic pseudo-beer, often sampled in large quantities in a town centres. Hard on the palate, best accompanied with a dodgy kebab, union jack boxer shorts, a cigarette and a drunk fat bird. Makes you want to fight.

stella is brewed like becks in australia with an ingredients list and use by date. Both are my choice.Under flavoured sure easy to drink you bet and as i work on wkds and start at 4am the only ones i've found you can really nudge and not notice. If anyone wants a real hangover drink some of australias swill[I'm from qld you try drinking 10 xxxx out of cans and rejoicing]

Quote "...just switched to stella from carling,STELLA ARTRAGE ROCKS!!!!!!..."
Compared with Carling most drinks would taste good. But next time try a proper cask or bottle-conditioned quality beer and you will be even more amazed.
Richard English
the only drink that comes close to stella is efes from turkey its got the strength but it gets too warm too soon over there.By the way mr. english i am open to suggestions on any strong lager.
chrissy bennett
There are plenty of good lagers (though very few from UK breweries). For strong lagers, Belgium is probably the best bet if you live in the UK. There are many Belgian beers available here.
Richard English
What do you guys think of bottled Kingfisher? And also San Miguel?
Taj M
Both pretty standard mega-breweries' lagers. I doubt you'd be able to tell one from another in a blind tasting.
Richard English
Quote "... There are many Belgian beers available here" would you be so kind to name a few of these beers which you would buy please Mr English.
Izaak
I could name many - but this site has reviews on around 400 of them so I would be wasting much time and effort - mine and yours. Just go to the search box and type in Belgium.
Richard English
You can get Stella with your 'meal' at McDonalds in Majorca - blandorama! Its piss for unsophisticated peasants though isn't it?
Mr Drunken Scumbag Abroad
stella is the best and them people who say it not need to get out more. it sponsers some major events and it very good
ian h
Bland and boring, don't waste your money. they sell this stuff in a fancy glass just to trick you into thinking you're getting a superb beer. Millions of $s in marketing can sell anything.

And, illiterate Ian, I get out quite a lot - more than do you, I suggest.

What a surprise, don't want to commit yourself Mr English, I understand. Just name one come on!
Izaak
In my humble opinion the best of the mass-produced Western European lagers. No match for any of the famous Czech brands, but likeable and definitely superior to Heineken, not to mention Carlsberg or that super-sterile thing from Bremen, Beck's.
Juraj
Quote "...What a surprise, don't want to commit yourself Mr English, I understand. Just name one come on!..."
It's not a question of being reluctant to commit myself it's a question of practicality. There are hundreds of Belgian beers and, although I have tried many, this board lists far more.
But since you insist, I especially enjoyed Huyghe Delirium Tremens.
Richard English
the stella brewed in the uk is fowl! it is only 5.1% and not 5.2% on tap in the uk! maybe this is inBev's plan to kerb the wife beating? f*ck knows what they put in it! maybe tap water or the contents of the InBev's brewery sewage system!
the belgium original is a million times better! and the australian one is ok.
just goes to show how much we get riped of when in off licences the uk version is over £5 for 5 and the real belgium stuff is 6 for £5 shows what a rip off the really is!
dose any one know is you can get the real belguim stella on tap in the uk?
steve breaks se london
I just got married so no more stella
Taj
Id like to think that stella is the inspiration for the "piswasser" brand of beer in GTA IV.
drunk and surly
The taste is unpleasant. If people just drank for the taste of beer they would realise this. Its a very bad lager. Whats good about a beer with the nickname 'Wifebeater'?
David, Guildford
To much chemical in it bad for head ache AND wife beating gear i hear. But has a nice taste cold.
Roy Felton
The Belgian stuff is drinkable, but the foul concoction "brewed under licence" in the UK, as with other beers, is not. Why do they let Whitbreads tarnish their reputation with a third class imitation?
