This is a dark golden colour, with the hazy appearance typical of the weissbier style, and a pleasingly thick and creamy head that stays right to the last mouthful. The nose is of vanilla, light spice and a little lemon zest - vanilla also evident in the froth. On the palate it is extremely light and smooth, with little evidence of its strength. Lemon zest is also present, though without any associated sharpness. The finish is very clean and pleasant; some yeast and vanilla remain well into the aftertaste. Overall this is a pleasant drink, but rather thin and light. A good introduction to the style, perhaps, and seemingly a good swigging beer despite its strength, but it loses out somewhat in depth and complexity of flavour.

It's the best beer I've ever drunk. Is it possible to buy it on line?
Salvador Blanch

It's the best of the world. Please get someone to import it to Spain

Must not be popular in Iowa, I purchased it there at a shady liquor store only to find it was two years expired. Not worth opening. Reminds me of the purchase of a Sportsfruend Bavarian wheat purchased at the same location in 1999, the beer expired in 1994. Yuck!

One of the world's great beers. Augustiner Weisse is a little more complex, but Maisel is a beer for all occasions.
Gavin Campbell

Nice white wheat beer head, with cinnomon aroma, and a soft velvety texture, with strong fruit suggestions, particularly banana. I like the Original better than the Kristal, more flavor, and extra vitamins are always nice. An absolute delight to drink. Makes a great dessert beer. Cheers!
Brian Shekey

Best beer I've ever tasted. Period. Everything else tastes quite strong compared to it. I hope I can get it when I move back to Canada from Germany.
Jack Shields

I come from Sydney Australia and it is the best beer I have ever tasted as well, but very hard to find in Sydney. The Concordia club in Sydney stocks it, but that's the only place I know where to find it. Tastes absolutely beautiful, superb :-)
Paul O'Callaghan

This is truly a gentleman's beer characterized most by its velvety finish and creamy froth -- the caviar of German weissbier, in my opinion. I have had a difficult time finding it in North America, but it is well worth the search effort!
A. Blake duPont

This really is a fine beer, from its refreshing yet full bodied taste. This beer enhanced by its lemon zest content and vanilla aftertaste is suitable for any occasion.

A visit to the Shubbery Taverna at Mission Beach in Queensland has converted me to Maisel's Original White. Served there by an expat German in the German style, this beer is just so good from start to finish. For anyone living in Australia, this beer is available on line from the BeerKings.

I love it... top beer!
Rhino!

My favorite beers are Hefeweizen and Pils (I should add that I was born in Germany, and I lived there the bigger part of my life). I think I know at least 30 different wheat beer brands. My favourite is Maisel's. My wife's first wheat beer was Maisel's, and although she likes the type, her big favourite is Maisel's too. Maisel's os one of the three wheat beers with additional bottle fermentation. This process costs additional money, but the taste is surely better.

I was recently stationed in Germany near the area in which this beer is brewed. I must say I felt as though I was in beer heaven for a few years! The only as good or better I have ever had was Schofferhoffer mmmmm memories
Rad

The day I die it will be difficult to reach heaven because I will be carrying as many Maisel's as my hands allow to make heaven funnier.

Me ,I like all beers (and many of them). This one I drank often, good, but not the best of Weizbier. The best one I know (it`s a little bit secret)is homed in osenheim.Bierbichler/Fischküche. That´s all for the first. My question remains:is it possible, that sometimes tastes are different,or even subjectively.?

I met Oscar Maisel years ago. He is a true gentleman, and I prefer his Wiesse to all of the wonderful German brews!
Steve Reynolds

Number 1 wheat beer in Germany. No question about it!
Daniel Straub

This stands out amongst Weissbiers because of its distinctive sparkling, spritzy, fizzy-on-the-tongue, refreshing character. It's maybe not too distinctive on the nose (spicy, mainly banana and cloves but less prominent than in some others) but has a very light and refreshing taste, with hints of lemon and grapefruit, very moreish, with a spicy but not-too-dry finish. Score: 7/10.

Where can I buy this beer in England, specifically London area? I had it last weekend in Germany and really like it! Any info would very much be appreciated.!

When I was stationed in Geissen Germany, I put down several truck loads of Maisels. Hands down, the best beer in the world. Sooo smooth and flavorful. I wish I could get it here in Missouri.
Aaron

There may NOT be a better wheat beer produced. Should I find one, I'll be writing about it. Until then, Maisels is THE FINEST WHEAT BEER I HAVE EVER TASTED. I strongly recommend that you make locating and giving this beer a try. Place it as a high priority on your beer wish list.
As with this and all beer, be sure that yours has been properly shipped, handled and stored. Loss of control in any one of these areas can change the way the beer was originally meant to taste.
A tip is to try the same beer at several different locations, or at least vary your times to get the freshest stocks available for sampling. Make a composite judgement as to "Quality." Anything less is not considered sound science, and a waste of time.

I have had 2 so far, and intend to buy a lot more. One to compare the taste to Ayingerbrau, and also to determine whether I had a good batch or not. No complaints here at all, extremely sublime and satisfying, first of all the colour and aroma are pleasing, and the taste is a lemon banana with a smooth mouthfeel. Onto more! It can be purchased at pitfield beer confirmed.

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. ABV is 5.4%. Hazy amber colour, large slightly off-white head. "Absolutely fabulous" aroma, orgasmic in its abundancy of fruitiness and spiciness. Notes of leather too. Flavour is bit more restrained, still very nice with all the traditional hefe characteristics, wheaty and yeasty with cloves but also some caramel and brown bread. Aftertaste is, like with most wheat beers, very moderate but nice. Can you expect a hefeweizen to be much better than this? 8.5/10 NOTE: Full name of this beer is Maisel's Weisse Original, and the ABV is now 5.4%, according to the brewery website and the fresh bottle in front of me. Not to be confused with the paler hefeweizen called Maisel's Weisse Hell, at ABV 5.2%.
Sigmund

Does anyone know why they dropped the ABV to 5.4% in 2005? It was orignally 5.7% Maybe they are trying to market to a wider audience. It still tastes great though!

Tasted maisel on Rhodes island in September 05. Best beer ever tasted. Can't find it in Manchester anywhere, please help as i am getting thirsty now!!!

I was stationed in Germany and tasted hundreds of beers and maisels weisse is the best beer that I have ever tasted, where can I purchase this beer I live in california...johnniechudoba@yahoo.com
john

As a huge fan of the Cooper's Sparkling Ale, I would not be one to compare this to it. Don't get me wrong, for a weissbier this is nice, semi-sweet with a lil hint of caramel and a lemony bite on the nose, with just enough heaviness. A good one for a light dinner or a couple with friends, but not an all night drinker.
Kevin

MY HUSBAND WAS STATIONED IN GERMANY AND THIS IS THE BEER HE TALKS ABOUT THE MOST. IF ANYONE COULD TELL ME WHERE I CAN GET HIM SOME PLEASE LET ME KNOW I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA. JESSICAOLIVAS2003@YAHOO.COM

I became very fond of this beer while serving in the US Army in Germany. I have yet to find weissbier in America that even comes close. Facing the daunting task of random sampling, I gave up. Discovering this website may help me rediscover weissbier!

I tried this beer in a german resturant in Cheraw, SC ...Incredible! In Hagerstown, MD Weisse beer is very popular, I have to turn my friends onto this brand. Wonderful flavor, spectacular color and finishes very well.
Mark

I drank this several times while travelling in Germany, and it was fantastic! However, having it on tap in Bayreuth, where it is brewed, was the most amazing experience. It is by far my favorite beer. Unfortunately, it is nearly impossible to find in the states, I've never seen it here.
Ryan

I just had my first taste of this beer. Haven't heard of this brand in Malaysia at all. Apparently, only one restaurant here carries this brand. I quite like it, got a quick history of how this beer was made, but I'm not too sure to what extend its true. Short version: Bread and pure ice water = Maisel's Weisse. I quite like this beer, its light and smooth. Does not leave a strong bitter after taste. I couldn't taste it, but I could smell some fruitiness and some spice. Much better than Hoegarden...:)..Pricey though, where I got it.
Amy Koh

I too discovered this wonderful beer while serving in Germany and I have been searching for years to no avail. So if anyone has found it for sale via mail please post.

I think the official review on this brew is skewed, as so many of us real beer drinkers that have had our two pfennigs worth to say about this great product. I was stationed in GE for 5 punkt 5 years and this is the best I found. Wish it was available in Gods Country (aka Wisconsin and GreenBay Packer land!) Tchuss!

Salvador Blanch, jo també vull trobar aquesta cervesa a Catalunya on la podria trobar? és l amillor que he tastat mai! pots respondre també a xavi_amat@hotmail.com

I bought this on the strength of the comments, but have to agree with the initial review that it's a little thin and lacking in flavour. I think there are much better wheat beers than this one.
Richard Allen

This is a nice beer...better than most of that over-carbonated crap that gets such high marks on this website...where are the Germans? Do you believe the crap that people like? This guy up on top is trying to compare this to a "sparkling ale"? Where do these people come from? Of course you wouldn't compare it to an ale, dumbass...are you going to compare Duvel to Fuller's ESB, or Budvar to oatmeal stout? Message: amateurs, get off this website, please--this is meant for true beer drinkers to share knowledge...if you cannot locate Bayern, Praha, or België on a map, leave...keep your two-bit taste suggestions to yourselves. (I am really not trying to be mean...just please leave...I like good beer and don't care for your opinions...)

Stationed in Germany for three years. Maisels was my absolute favorite. I've found it a few times in the states but would love to find a steady supply in Tennessee.
kevin

I first had this beer in when I was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. I loved the taste and I still do. I even managed to turn a friend of mine into a fan.
Nick

i drink this when i feel lonely because it makes me feel un-lonely. i like it so much i put it in my cereal sometimes and eat it with the cereal. but i sometimes eat it even if i don't have cereal to eat it. its good. i high recommend it. A+++
Ricky

Satisfaction... A beer that stands out from others. Thick but smooth...Introduced to one of my friends and he quickly becomes the die-hard fan. The only problem is - hard to get.

Yum Yum Yum - DELICIOUS!!!

Wow, it is amazing how many people on here tried this beer while stationed in Germany! I tried while stationed in Italy. We trained a lot in Germany and many places in Northern Italy also carried this beer. All of us found this to be our favorite German beer. Has anyone been succesful in finding a website that ships this to the United States? There used to be a store next to me that carried it but it stopped several years ago. aburns6@gmail.com
Andrew Burns

I tried my first Maisel's Weisse at a restaurant in Raleigh, NC while on business. What a great beer that went well with a Cajun Blackened Prime Rib that I hope to find in my area.
